Assigning teachers to work among Polonia and Poles abroad

In line with an authorisation from the Minister of National Education dated December 22nd 2009, the Centre for the Development of Polish Education Abroad (ORPEG) deals with  support for the teaching of the Polish language, history, geography, Polish culture and other subjects among Polonia and Poles residing abroad, as well as the children of migrant workers, i.a. through the assignment of teachers for work among the said Polonia and Poles abroad.

Information for teachers interested in taking up work abroad

Potential candidates for assignment abroad are teachers possessing or having:

  • the qualifications required in Poland to take up the post of teacher of a given subject (Polish language, early-school teaching, history or physics); 
  • a knowledge of the language of the given country or else Russian, English, Spanish, French or German, where the said language is widely used in the country to which the given teacher is seeking to be assigned;
  • an assessment of work done of at least the ”good” level obtained in the 5-year period immediately preceding submission of the application;
  • a state of health allowing work as a teacher in a given country to be taken up.

Information for institutions/organisations interested in inviting a teacher from Poland

All institutions and organisations (Polonia associations, association schools, weekend schools, etc.) interested in inviting a teacher from Poland to work should submit the following forms to the relevant Polish Consulate:

  • application to have a teacher sent from Poland (>>PDF version; >> .doc version); 
  • annex to the application  (>>PDF version; >>.doc version)

You are invited to submit non-named applications, i.e. with no name of a given sought teacher. Copies of applications should reach ORPEG by 10.02.2014 at the following address: Ośrodek Rozwoju Polskiej Edukacji za Granicą (Centre for the Development of Polish Education Abroad), ul. Rolna 175, 02-729 Warszawa, with the annotation “Division for the support of Polonia and Polish-language education” (Wydział do spraw Wspomagania Oświaty Polonijnej i Polskojęzycznej).

The invitation procedure

Consular offices give their opinions as to applications, before sending them on to the Department for International Cooperation and Strategy at the Ministry of National Education in Warsaw, by 10.02.2014  (or 30.11.2013 in the cases of Argentina and Brazil).

Schools operating within local educational systems invite teachers from Poland in line with the procedures in force in the given country. Requests for teachers to work in these schools should reach the Department for International Cooperation and Strategy at the Ministry of National Education in Warsaw by 10.02.2014 r. (or 30.11.2013 in the cases of Argentina and Brazil).

 

Assignment to European schools

Teachers working at European Schools are assigned by the Ministries of Education in the given countries, once they are shown to meet the formal requirements as regards education, training and professional experience. They must be fluent in at least one of the official languages English, French or German. Moreover, teachers of subjects taught to mixed-language groups (arts subjects and PE), school pedagogues and School Directors or Deputy Directors must have a fluent knowledge of two of the official languages of the European Schools.

Polish teachers assigned by the Minister of National Education to work at a European School are employed by ORPEG (the Centre for the Development of Polish Education Abroad), having first passed through the competitive entry procedure. Information as regards recruitment is posted on the websites of ORPEG, the Ministry of National Education, the education superintendencies, the Central Examination Commission and district examination commissions. Alongside knowledge of a foreign language, candidates are also expected to have higher education to Master’s level, and be in possession of a teaching diploma.
